NWSS Board Meetings - All Board Meetings are open to Members of the Northwest Steam Society. For the year 2010 they will be held on the following Saturdays: January 9, April 10, June 12, and October 9. Locations have yet to be determined. July 9 through 11 - Siltcoos Lake Mini Meet, Westlake Resort, Oregon. Another quiet, laid back steaming area near the southern Oregon coast which is acquiring a small following. July 24 - Oregon Coast Crawler, Garibaldi, Oregon. Five Hour round trip behind a vintage steam engine from Garibaldi to Wheeler and back along the scenic Oregon coast w/stop for picnic-style lunch at Wheeler. Several photo run-bys. July 24 & 25 - Lake Whatcom 4 or 5 Landings Mini Meet, Bellingham, Washington. This annual outing for steamboaters on Lake Whatcom has now become a tradition. July 24 & 25 and July 31 & August 1 - The Great Oregon Steam-Up, Antique Powerland, Brooks, Oregon. Wow! Two weekends of land based steam and other machinery. There's not enough space here to describe it all, so visit their website at http://www.antiquepowerland.com/info/annual.html. A pleasant way to watch other peoples steam stuff in operation (and remember why you didn't buy that 110HP Case traction engine). And it's a family event.
August 6 through 8 - Northwest Steam Society Annual Meet, Tacoma, Washington. We are promised excellent facilities and good moorage. More details will be on the "2010 meet" page as I receive them. August 9 - American Lake. On Monday August 9th, after our NWSS Annual Steam Meet in Tacoma, Wa., you will have the opportunity for some additional steaming on beautiful American Lake, about 6 miles SW from Tacoma. The lakes provides views of Mt.Rainier, NWSS member Dave Fogg has a cabin at the lake near the launching ramp ,and we can use his dock to tie-up if we want. We plan to launch our steamers at 09:00 am and haul out again at 04:00pm. It is also a good chance to wash off the saltwater from your boat and trailer. August 20 through 22 - Port of Toledo Wooden Boat Show, Toledo, Oregon (just a few miles up the Yaquina from Newport). This is being billed as the "best Port of Toledo Wooden Boat Show yet", celebrating the Centennial of Toledo - great activities on the water, live music on stage all weekend, kids activities, lots of nice cruising ground as well. August 20 - S.S. MASTER 3 hrs excursion for NWSS members on August 28th, 2010. The historic steam tug will be waiting for us in Vancouver, B.C. at the Granville Island Wooden Boat Festival. Departure time is 10:00am sharp. This excursion is limited to 20 NWSS members. We already have 11 registrations so far. August 28 & 29 - Steaming with the Swan, Sproat Lake, British Columbia, CANADA located 8 miles NW of Port Alberni. Built in 1890 the 33' Swan was raised and restored by Art Skipsey. In a recent visit, member Wolfgang Schlager (always ready to start a mini meet) was so impressed with Swan and Sproat Lake that he and Art decided to have a mini meet there. And not by coincidence, the meet is the weekend before the Victoria Classic Boat Festival - leave your boat at Art's place on Vancover Island and return for the Victoria event. September 24 & 25 - Sacramento Delta Meet, B & W Resort, Isleton, California. An annual meet for over 35 years, this central California get together draws 20 to 30 boats from the entire West Coast. Located at the B & W Resort ( http://www.bandwresort.com/ ), there's a launch ramp, fuel dock, and moorage right in front of the accomodations. But make your reservations early.
